Valenki

They are traditional Russian wear. Valenki are made of wood. They are very very warm. One can wear them in a cold weather in winter.

Cheburashka is one of the most famous cartoon characters in Russia. It was created by E. Uspensky. You can buy stuffed toy, a keyring or a postcard with Cheburashka in Russia.

Samovar

This is Russian samovar. It is a device to boil water for tea. Tula was the town of samovars. The master decorated them with colorful paintings.

Martyoshka

This is a Russian wooden doll. Matryoshka is a beautiful Russian toy. They are five dolls in a bigger one. They are made of wood. It`s traditional Russian craft. It`s popular souvenir from Russia.

Gzhel ceramics

Gzhel is a Russian style of ceramics. It is from the town Gzhel. It`s a beautiful style in blue and white colors. People often buy this ceramics to decorate their houses.

Christopher Columbus discovered America. Now there are 50 states in the USA. The American flag is called stars and stripes. Thirteen stripes show 13 states that signed the Declaration of Independence.

The national symbol of the country is the bald eagle.

The territory of America as compared with the territory of Russia is smaller. Texas is the biggest state in the USA.

Washington, D.C. is the capital of the USA. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

The White House is situated in Washington. George Washington was the first President of

the USA.

New York is another biggest city of America. The statue of Liberty is located in New York.

 CHRISTMAS IN GREAT BRITAIN

December 25 is the Christmas Day in Great Britain. In the weeks before Christmas people are very busy.  They buy gifts and send Christmas card to their friends and relatives.  May children  make their cards at school.

There are nice Christmas decorations in the streets.  On Christmas Eve people  decorate the Christmas tree. People believe that at night Father Christmas puts presents into the stockings which usually they hang on the beds. 

The traditional Christmas meal is roast turkey and Christmas pudding.

CHRISTMAS IN RUSSIA

The Russian Orthodox Church uses the old calendar for church festivals. There is a difference between the modern and  the old calendars .

So, Russian people celebrate Christmas on January 7 but other countries celebrate it in December 25.

Russian people prepare for this day beforehand.  They go to the supermarket and buy a lot of tasty things. Then they send greeting cards to their relatives and friends.

On this day Russian people go to the church. Coming home, they have Christmas dinner. Our families also celebrate Christmas. Mums cook cakes and make salads. We invite our friends to come to the Christmas party. After dinner our parents and guests watch TV. And we, children, play games. We love Christmas very much.

CHRISTMAS IN THE USA

The Christmas story comes form the Bible. The birth of Jesus Christ is very important in the celebration of Christmas. And at the same time Christmas is a time for fun and giving presents to each other.

Americans celebrate Christmas on December 25. They prepare for this day beforehand.

People decorate their houses on this day. They buy and cook tasty things. They made a turkey. People invite friends and make a party. They wear costumes. They are very nice.

On Christmas Eve, Santa Claus brings presents to the people houses. In the morning children adults open their presents and then they go to the church. They sing special Christmas songs or carols.  All people in the world know and love the carols “Jingle Bells!” and “Silent Night”. People wish each other a “Merry Christmas!”

THE BODY LANGUAGE

There are many different nations around the world. Each nation has its own language, culture and traditions.

Nowadays people travel to foreign countries . It is easy for people from different countries to communicate with each other and learn more about each other. The language helps us in it.

Body language means  gestures, postures and facial expressions.  Sometimes this silent language

speaks louder than  words. It may tell you that the person is not sincere. You may also learn about the person’s emotions and thoughts not from the words but from his body language.

Hi! My name is Dima Smirnov. I’m 10 years old. I’m in class 5B. I want to tell you about  my family.

Our family consists of three people: mother, father and me. My mother is young and beautiful. Her name is Irina Anatolievna. My father is young too. His name is Evgeny Petrovich. I have got grandparents and cousins. They are very kind and caring. I love to play with my cousins.  We have got a cat Shurik. For us it is like a family member. I like to play with him. My favourite day

My favorite day is Saturday. I get up at 10 p.m. I eat breakfast and go out to play with my friends. At 1o’clock I come back to have dinner with my family. After dinner I watch TV and listen to music. At 7 a.m. I have supper. After that I play computer games. At eleven o'clock I go to bed. Saturday is my favourite day.

“Russian teen magazines”

 If you walk into a supermarket, you usually see shelves with lots of magazines for teenagers.

 Teen girls today are the biggest part of the audience of teen magazines, so more magazines are created    especially for them. Magazines for girls usually have a female celebrity on the cover. The title of the magazine and some of its articles are printed in bright letters on the cover. Many teen magazines   have a “glossy” cover. The most popular teen magazines are: ELLE girl, Seventeen, Oops, Yes, Cool girl.

Boys are not so mad about their appearance and fashion. The magazines for boys are usually about sports and computer games.

They say, magazines have positive and negative influence on teenagers. Readers usually   like the magazines because they are bright with interesting and useful  information, they publish articles about teen problems. On the other hand, there is the fact that teen magazines  pressure teenagers  to achieve an ideal that is not realistic. Most importantly, teenagers should believe in themselves.

 No magazine controls teens. With right reader attitude magazines for teens can be fun, relaxing, informative and even useful.
