AMERICA, THE BEAUTIFUL!

Christopher Columbus discovered America. Now there are 50 states in the USA. The American flag is called stars and stripes. Thirteen stripes show 13 states that signed the Declaration of Independence.

The national symbol of the country is the bald eagle.

The territory of America as compared with the territory of Russia is smaller. Texas is the biggest state in the USA.

Washington, D.C. is the capital of the USA. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

The White House is situated in Washington. George Washington was the first President of

the USA.

New York is another biggest city of America. The statue of Liberty is located in New York.

 CHRISTMAS IN GREAT BRITAIN

December 25 is the Christmas Day in Great Britain. In the weeks before Christmas people are very busy.  They buy gifts and send Christmas card to their friends and relatives.  May children  make their cards at school.

There are nice Christmas decorations in the streets.  On Christmas Eve people  decorate the Christmas tree. People believe that at night Father Christmas puts presents into the stockings which usually they hang on the beds. 

The traditional Christmas meal is roast turkey and Christmas pudding.

CHRISTMAS IN RUSSIA

The Russian Orthodox Church uses the old calendar for church festivals. There is a difference between the modern and  the old calendars .

So, Russian people celebrate Christmas on January 7 but other countries celebrate it in December 25.

Russian people prepare for this day beforehand.  They go to the supermarket and buy a lot of tasty things. Then they send greeting cards to their relatives and friends.

On this day Russian people go to the church. Coming home, they have Christmas dinner. Our families also celebrate Christmas. Mums cook cakes and make salads. We invite our friends to come to the Christmas party. After dinner our parents and guests watch TV. And we, children, play games. We love Christmas very much.

CHRISTMAS IN THE USA

The Christmas story comes form the Bible. The birth of Jesus Christ is very important in the celebration of Christmas. And at the same time Christmas is a time for fun and giving presents to each other.

Americans celebrate Christmas on December 25. They prepare for this day beforehand.

People decorate their houses on this day. They buy and cook tasty things. They made a turkey. People invite friends and make a party. They wear costumes. They are very nice.

On Christmas Eve, Santa Claus brings presents to the people houses. In the morning children adults open their presents and then they go to the church. They sing special Christmas songs or carols.  All people in the world know and love the carols “Jingle Bells!” and “Silent Night”. People wish each other a “Merry Christmas!”

THE BODY LANGUAGE

There are many different nations around the world. Each nation has its own language, culture and traditions.

Nowadays people travel to foreign countries . It is easy for people from different countries to communicate with each other and learn more about each other. The language helps us in it.

Body language means  gestures, postures and facial expressions.  Sometimes this silent language

speaks louder than  words. It may tell you that the person is not sincere. You may also learn about the person’s emotions and thoughts not from the words but from his body language.

BLACK GOLD

Every year people use more and more oil. Oil is sometimes called “Black gold”. And this is true.

Oil is taken from the ground. Many useful things can be done from oil: plastics, wax, synthetic fabrics and much more.

Many people of our town work on the oil rigs and on the refineries. Their work is hard, but very important.

Oil is our treasure!

How We Celebrate The New Year At Home

Every year we celebrate the New Year at home. We have a party on the 31-st of December.

Usually we decorate our flat. We buy the New Tree and decorate it with balloons and beautiful toys.

We invite our  friends  and relatives to our party. My mum and granny cook tasty food. My

favorite New Year food is a cake. It’s very delicious!  Our friends also like cooking, and they

bring a lot of food with them. We wear fancy dresses for this party. We dance round the New Year tree, sing songs and play games. I prepare a lot of  surprises for the party.  Father Frost and his granddaughter always come to our house. They give us a lot of presents and tell us interesting fairy –tales. At midnight we switch on TV to watch   the films and the concerts .I should say that the NewYear is one of my favorite holidays.

NEW YEAR PARTY AT OUR SCHOOL

On December 30 we had the New Year party at school. The New Year tree was wonderful. We decorated it with toys and colorful lights.  Our boys decorated the school with balloons and merry pictures. Our girls sent the invitation cards to our friends from other schools.  

Our parents were at this party. We organized the merry concert for our guests and parents. The children from the primary school showed the New Year musical “The Wolf and a lot of Goats”. They sang and danced to the music, and the guests were very happy to listen to it. 

After the concert we returned to our classroom and continued the party there. Our mums cooked us a huge cake. It was very tasty! Father Frost and his granddaughter came to our class, and we got a lot of nice presents.

We liked the New Year party very much!

NEW YEAR IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES

There are many interesting traditions for celebrating New Year in different countries. 

In Scotland, for example, the Scottish families gather around the fire and symbolically burn all 

the hardships of the last year. When the clock strikes 12 times, the head of the family opens the 

door wide and, it is considered, that the New Year enters. Then the members of the family sit at 

the table and a happy holiday begins. If you visit Scotland in these days, be sure to bring a piece 

of ham, a bottle of whisky and a lamp of coal. Then in the coming year this house will be warm, 

fun and comfortable for everyone who lives here.  

In the USA, in New York,  thousands of people gather on the Time Square and celebrate this 

holiday together They congratulate each other with the happy New Year and sing the merry 

In Japan the bamboo and the pine branches are the symbols of a happy long life. All people write 

verses and even poems. Children draw beautiful ships and hide their drawings under the pillows.

They think that these ships can help them to realize their desires.

CATS ARE OUR BEST PETS

Cats are the most popular pets in different countries. Why do the people like cats?

They are very kind and helpful. Cats even know how to treat. The cat comes to

a sick person, lie down on his painful place and everything will be all right.

At first the ancient people liked the cats for their ability to catch mice and rats.

In ancient Egypt the cat was considered to be a sacred animal.

Some people believed that cats not only protect the houses from the mice but from evil spirits.

Other people thought that the black cats had mystical abilities and could companions of witches.

I think it is a great pleasure to have such a pet at home. I also have a cat and I love him very much!

RUSSIAN PETS

Russian children have a lot of pets: cats, dogs, hamsters and rabbits. Girls often  like cats,

because these pets are very kind and clever.

Boys prefer to have dogs and hamsters. Dogs are also kind animals. But sometimes they can be

very angry. Besides dogs barks very loudly. And I don’t like it. As for the hamsters, they are

very funny. Many children like to play with them.

Almost every Russian family has a pet. As for me, I have a cat. Look at him! He is so lovely! His

name is Murzik. I give him milk and meat. I often play with him in my free time. In summer we

take our pet with us to the country.

                                                   MY FAVOURITE CITY

My favourite city is Samara. Samara is one of the oldest Russian cities. It is located on the left

bank of the Volga River.

The city stretches along the Volga River. It in the Soviet period from 1935 to 1991 the city was

named Kuibyshev, in honor of the Soviet party leader Valerian Kuibyshev.

The population of Samara is 1.125 million people. It occupies the 6-th place in the Russian

Federation  after Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and Nizhny Novgorod.

The city is divided into 9 administrative districts. My favourite district is Samara district.

There are many green parks and gardens in this district. Many old houses, historical  monuments,

theatres and museums can be also found here.

I like to spend my weekends in Samara. My parents and I often go to Samara and  visit the

theatres and the museums.

                        VICTORY DAY

May 9-th is Victory Day. On May 9-th, 1945, World War II ended. We have a parade and fire works on this day.

My family and I go to the central square of our town to watch this parade.

Our senior students take part in this parade. We are proud of our great-grandfathers and their heroic dead.

Russia and the USA were allies in this war. They fought together against Nazi Germany.

On April 25, 1945 Soviet and American soldiers met at the River Elba in Germany. Americans and Russians shook hands and embraced.

My Dream House

I’d like to live in Samara in a two storey house. It will be a place where I will live with my

family and where I will feel comfortable. I’d like to have ten rooms: four bedrooms, two

kitchens  two bathrooms, a study and a living room. My dream is to have a beautiful garden near

my house. There will be a lake in my garden. I’d like to have a big swimming  pool in my house

too.

The rooms on the ground floor will be green and the rooms on the first floor will be pink.

My house will be nice and cozy. It will be  my favourite  place because it will be “home, sweet

home!”

TRANSPORT IN LONDON

London is one of the biggest cities in the world with a population of over 8 million.

200 years ago London was a compact city where most people got around on foot.

In 1900 almost every vehicle on the streets of London was horse-drawn.

15 years later everything changed. Horse buses and horse trams disappeared in

London, and motor taxis outnumbered horse-drawn cabs.

In the 1920s buses overtook trams in popularity. Buses and the red double deck bus

are iconic symbols of London.

The London Underground carries more than three million passengers a day.

Lately the London transport system has considerably improved its service.

MY FAVOURITE COLOUR

My favourite colour is pink. If you mix white and red, you will have pink.

Some people think that pink is a symbol of hope and dreams. I have pink dresses and shirts.

In summer I usually wear a pink T-shirt and a blue skirt. I wear a long pink dress for the patries.

After holidays I come back to school and I usually have clean pink copybooks. And even my schoolbag is pink. I like to read and translate poems and this poem is about colours.  

Red, red, red, touch your head.

This is my head and it’s not red.

Blue, blue, blue, touch your shoe.

This is my shoe and it’s not blue.

Brown, brown, brown, touch the ground.

This is the ground and it’s not brown.

Black, black, black, touch your back.

This is my back and it’s not black.

Purple, purple, purple,  draw a circle.

This is a circle and it’s not purple.

Красное, красное, красное. Твоя голова красная.

Это моя голова, но  она совсем не красная

Синее, синее, синее. Твоя  обувь ярко- синяя.

GREENFIELD PARK IN LONDON

There is an unusual park in London. It is called Greenfield Park.

Here you can find a lot of fun and exciting things to do.

Children and their parents can spend their free time in this park

They can walk and play there. In Greenfield Park they can see various birds 

and rare animals.

Many children visit the Bouncy castle or have a cup of coffee in the café.

Boys and girls can go rollerblading or roller coasters. Besides they will have 

a picnic on the bank of the river.

Also they can take pictures of wild animals.

I think that it will be very interesting to visit this park!

ROALD DAHL (1916-1990)

Roald Dahl is a famous British writer. During the World War 2 he was a pilot. 

He began writing books for both children and adults and soon became very 

popular.

He began writing his first stories in America. His books such as “Someone Like 

You”, “James and the Grant Peach” were published in the USA.

One of his remarkable books is “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” is well-known 

not only for children but for the grown-ups. A film was made after it.

Roald Dahl is known as the writer of “horrible stories”. But children all over the 

world like his fairy-tales. “Three Little Pigs”, “The Frog and the Nightingale”,

“Little Red Riding Hood” are full of humor and warmth.

I think that his books are very interesting and exciting!

THE ROYAL FAMILY

The United Kingdom of Great Britain is a constitutional monarchy.

It has a king or a queen as the Head of State. However, the monarch has little 

power and can only reigns with the support of Parliament.

At present the Head of Great Britain is Queen Elizabeth II. Queen Elizabeth II and 

her husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, have four children.

Queen Elizabeth and her children are known as the House and Family if Windsor. 

Charles, the Prince of Wales, is the eldest son in the Royal Family. He has two 

sons , Prince William and Prince Henry.

In 2011 Queen Elizabeth’s eldest grandson, Prince William, married Miss 

Catherine Middleton. Now they have the title of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

FAVOURITE FILMS OF RUSSIAN SCHOOLCHILDREN

You need a lot of people to make a film. There are actors, the director, the camera 

operator, the producer and the sound recordist. Some films take months or even 

years to make.

In Russia children like seeing different films: cartoons, adventure films, comedies 

and so on. As for me, I prefer comedies.

My favourite comedy is “Nannies”. The film was made in Russia in 2012.

The director of this film was Ashot Keshan. The film stars were Nikolay Naumov, 

Olesya Zheleznyak and some other actors. I think that their acting is fantastic!

The plot of the film is great, because it is full of special effects.

In my opinion “Nannies ” is a very good film. I like it because it is full of funny 

situations and makes me laugh.
